Mina Devi Bohara, a single mother of three, lives in the small hut that barely protects her from rain in rainy season. She makes her livelihood by working for other people. As she doesn’t own any land or any other properties, she depends on jobs that pay minimum wage, which is about 75 cents a day. She works 10 hours a day and 7 days a week when she finds a job. But during the off season, she barely meets her daily needs as the type of jobs she does are limited. “It is not easy to be a single mother in a society where being a single woman is ostracized but it gets worse when there is no means of income or properties to depend on” says Mina Devi Bohara.
Our field co-ordinator, Mr. Sulav Khanal met with Mina Devi Bohara to discuss her interest and how we could help. She showed her interest in a goat farming project. The goat farming project in this location was a good match as weather is favorable and abundant pasture land is available for goats to graze on. Our Founder and President, Mr. Yangmali Sahadev Rai visited the location to hand over goats to Mina Devi Bohara during his Nepal trip. With the help and co-ordination of our field co-ordinator, Mr. Sulav Khanal, former constituent Assembly member Bikaram Khanal, local leaders and community members were present during the handover ceremony. We wish Mina Devi Bohara all the best with her goat farming project. We cannot wait to hear the update and progress of the project.
