Micro – Finance Project Guatemala

About This Project

In 2025 the Yang-Ward foundation launched a groundbreaking microfinance initiative with the aim of scaling up our projects and expanding our impact on a global level. This is a collaborative initiative between Yang-Ward Foundation and Pro-Chapina, a non-profit based out of Cidad Vieja, Guatemala. Consistent with the Yang-Ward Foundation’s mission to empower single women to achieve financial independence, the pilot phase of this project picked a group of five committed single women entrepreneurs who are selected for their need, passion, creativity and potential to build sustainable businesses that reflect both their heritage and vision for a better future.

Fina López – Ribbon Embroidery and Decorative Accents
Fina is a meticulous artisan whose talent in traditional ribbon embroidery transforms simple fabrics into vibrant cultural pieces. Her products celebrate Guatemalan heritage and are ideal for clothing accents, household decor, and ceremonial use. Through this loan, she aims to expand her production and introduce new collections with modern twists while preserving ancestral techniques.

María Catalina & Cristina Pereira – Woven and Ukrainian-Guatemalan Fusion Jewelry
These two entrepreneurial sisters are innovating the world of handwoven jewelry and beadwork by combining Ukrainian-inspired designs with rich Guatemalan colors and motifs. Their work bridges cultures while honoring local identity. With the support of this program, they will invest in quality materials, develop a new product line, and participate in local and international markets.

Carmen Martínez – Sewing, Bag-Making, and Textile Craftsmanship
Carmen has long been recognized in her community for her skill in sewing, handbag creation, and textile arts. Her products are both functional and artistic, ranging from everyday tote bags to intricately designed accessories. The microloan will allow her to purchase industrial fabrics, improve her tools, and explore eco-friendly options to align her brand with sustainability trends.

Lurdes Martínez – Guatemalan and Ethnic-Inspired Crochet
Lurdes specializes in handmade crochet pieces infused with Guatemalan and ethnic cultural symbols. Her work includes accessories, clothing details, and home items that speak to tradition while appealing to contemporary tastes. With this funding, she plans to scale production and receive tailored training to enhance product diversification and customer outreach.
